Trips to the beach

Well a couple of weeks  ago I went to Constanta – where the beaches are the best to visit family, and leave the girls there for a short 2 week stay.  Planned on getting pics then, but  no such luck as it rained cats and dogs.  There was actually quite a bit of flooding that went on down here in S.E. Romania.  Anyway, went back this past weekend to get the girls, and the weather was great, I got some sun, rather, I got a burn – not bad, but still, for fair skinned red heads, too much sun ain’t good = more freckles.  Did I mention I loathe my freckles!!!

Anyway, so here are a few shots of the girls at the beach, and yes, my youngest daughter is a total ham!

Tom Jones, Mean Girls, et al

Okay, this is going to be a totally random rant, so  bear  with me.

Okay, we get “Duck Dodgers” over here, a cartoon starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, only sci-fi.  The theme song is sung by none other than Tom Jones.  I hate it and love it at the  same time.  Love it cause the lyrics are hysterical, at least I think so, and I hate it cause I can’t stand to hear Tom Jones sing. Seriously, the guy sounds like he’s in pain when he sings.  Take his voice and Aaron Neville’s face and it ain’t nothing but an auditory and visual pain fest!  Tom sounds as if in pain, and Aaron looks like he’s in pain!  Uggg….

So my writer cousin wrote a blog the other day reviewing a YA (that’s Young Adult)  novel about mean girls, and it spurned discussions in the comments about our own kids; our thoughts, fears etc. for our own daughters, as well as our own experiences growing up.  Her post can be found here.  I had a hard time as a kid.  I didn’t have a big house, or new car, heck one parent  was MIA.  I wore hand me downs, lived in what looked like an over sized building block – no lie – it had a flat roof, and was made out of cinder blocks.   My brother was ADHD and  was constantly in trouble with the teachers and other students,  and I was always bailing him out.  I wanted to fit in hang out with the “cool” kids, only they didn’t like me.  It  wasn’t till high school that I realized that these people didn’t matter, that once we got out of school I would probably never see them again for as long as I lived.  I wish I would have gotten that earlier, woulda saved myself a lot of heartache, and probably would have focused more on my books!  Ah hind-sight!  Gotta love it!  Too little too late, I guess.  But I see my oldest daughter headed down the same path, she will do anything for approval, and that scares me.  The other  kids have figured this out, and use it to their advantage.  If I give Kelly a few bucks to buy herself some chips, or candy, that’s when she has “friends”.  If she doesn’t have anything, they don’t play with her.  I tried to explain to her what took me so long to learn.  I don’t know if she gets it.  I don’t want my kids to feel like I did, nor do I want them to be like the girls that were mean to me, which is what I have to worry about with my middle child, also a girl.  She is cute, and she knows it!  She loves you if you are pretty!!!  She only really likes people who are pretty!  She bases everything on looks.  She plays with kids who are older than her.  Only once have I seen her play with another kid her own age, and this was only a few weeks ago.  And this little girl was pretty, and knew it too.  Talk about 2 peas in a pod!  Isabel isn’t mean  to other kids,  but she will tell you point blank if she doesn’t like you, she doesn’t let anyone push her around.  Somewhat scary!  I pray for wisdom daily!  God, hello, do you hear me down here?  Can you help me?  Can you help my kids?  Hello?  HELLOOOOOO???????

So I have taken some advice and started writing, not sure if it will be a novel yet, I’m kinda stuck, and I’m only in the 3rd chapter – not a great prospect!  No, it’s not about my life as an ex-pat, etc.  Completely fictional.  I should write about my life,  I mean they say to write what you know, right?  I just don’t know how to put our story on paper without some serious repercussions – for those of you not familiar with my situation and why I’m here, basically it could land my hubby in some serious political/criminal trouble with his government.  No, he didn’t kill anyone or anything like that, but hello, it’s only been 20 years since  Communism fell here, and  all the politicians are old Commies!  But I digress.  It should be interesting if I can figure out exactly what I want to do with my female lead.  I have the guy figured out, but not sure what to do with her, she’s complicate,  but then again, aren’t all  women???

Last rant.  I wrote last week about how much it’s been raining here.  Towns  have completely flooded, etc.  It’s  been pretty bad.  But it finally stopped, only this week – the heat has been unbearable.  There is no such thing as central A/C, they do have units, and we could get one, but it would jack my electric bill up.  Electricity and gas are SKY HIGH here.  We have a fan, but I only run it during nap time, and at bed time in the kids room.  Anyway, so it rained today for about an hour, and I was happy, cause it cooled off for a few hours! WHOO-HOO!!!  But it stopped, and now it’s stifling again!  GAG!!!

I thought about something else to rant about, but it has now escaped my mind!  Help me Lord!  The gray hairs have penetrated the brain!

Earth God?

Okay so I just heard the most ridiculous thing on L.A. Ink, yes, I like watching people get tatooed, not sure why, but I do, guilty pleasure #153.

Anyway, so this one woman got a tatoo of the earth, with the recycling symbol wrapping around it.  She said, and I quote:  “The earth is my god.”.  Okay, I can deal with that, people have been worshipping the earth, sun, moon, stars, etc. since, well Forever.

Well she is also a vegan, and she said “We have all the pigs and cows, and other animals on these farms, and they release all this methane, then it rains, and the methane drains into the ground and our water”…  O.K.!?!

So my thing is this – so what there have been animals roaming this planet since the dawn of time pretty much. The animal population is DRASTICALLY smaller than what it was even 150 years ago.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for taking care of our land and waters, etc., finding alternate energy sources, and all, but I think some people take thing a little too far!

What If….

So I was thinking about past events, and wondered ‘what if’?  Everyone I’m sure at one point or another has wondered the exact same thing.  There are some events that stand out in my  mind more than others.  I had chosen that path instead of this one, would I be happier??  Would I still have some of the same things I have now.  The answer is unknown, but still I can’t help but wonder, “what if?”

Religious Idols

My sister in law, who was raised Orthodox [catholic] has been visiting me daily, and we’ve been having really good discussions regarding the bible.  One thing that kept coming up was the kissing of the pictures of Christ that is “mandatory” within the Orthodox church.

Let me back track just a bit, her best friend recently gave her heart to the Lord in a “Pentecostal” church.  The Pentecostals here are not, I repeat NOT like the Pentecostal churches in the U.S.  They don’t make the women keep their hair & skirts long, and no make-up.  They are more like the charismatic/non-denominational churches in the U.S.

Elena, that is my sister in law’s name, has been attending church with her friend, and really enjoys it because she said she actually learns something, unlike the Orthodox church, where they just read a bunch of scripture and don’t explain it or break it down.  They just tell you do this, don’t do that, etc.  On a side note:  the Orthodox priests clothing reminds me of the drawings that have been done of the Pharisees and Sadducees.  Every time I see a priest here, I immediately think of the Sandrehin.

Anyway,  She knows that I believe like her friend, so we’ve been discussing the bible and religion, etc.  The whole kissing the pictures, and praying to Mary thing has come up a bunch of times.  When talking to someone who is basically a babe in Christ, you don’t want to confuse them, and freak them out.  I explained that NO RELIGIOUS SYSTEM has it all right.  That if you are kissing a picture of Christ because you believe that will help you get your sins forgiven, then it is wrong.  I explained that I believe it is a form of idol worship because of what God said in the 10 Commandments.  So we broke out the bibles, mine in English and one in Romanian for her.  We read the commandments as laid out in Exodus 20: 2-17, specifically verses 3-5:

“3.  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

5.  Thou shalt no bow down thyself to them, no serve them:  for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, …”

When Elena read v.4, you could see the light bulb go off over her head, as she exclaimed…”IT IS A SIN!!” See the thing with a lot of the older religions like the Orthodox, Catholics, Lutherans, etc.  church has become a ritual, and worse yet, a way to make money through church dues, prayer candles, etc, etc.  They have take the clean and made it unclean, the Holy and made it filthy.  They have turned the House of the Lord into a den of thieves.  I’m not talking just about monetarily either, spiritually, a lot of churches, more of the charismatic, are twisting scriptures to fit their doctrines and beliefs.  Take one verse completely out of context from the entire chapter.  Because of things like this we find people who get confused, mistreated, trampled on and hurt beyond repair it seems, because man, in his infinite folly, thinks that he knows more.

All the blame cannot be laid entirely at the feet of religious leaders, priests, pastors, etc.  The blame lies at the feet of the body of Christ.  See, we are believers are called to be watchmen, but we aren’t watching, we’ve let the wolves in, even though the sheep’s clothing is halfway hanging off.  We’ve become fat and lazy on the blessings of our fore-fathers, at least in America.  So instead of standing up and rebuking the false teaching that is running rampant in our churches, we sit back and soak it all up.  We don’t go home and fast and pray, and study the Word on our own.  We rely on our pastors to tell us all about it, and trust that they are being truthful, while putting the proverb that tells us that “…the heart of man is deceitful..” out of our mind.  Because, hey, we don’t want to feel convicted, we don’t want to live a life of holiness and righteousness, cause dang-it, that’s just too hard.  We like riding the fence, being luke-warm.  What was that God said he would do to the luke-warm??? Oh yeah, he’s gonna SPEW US OUT OF HIS MOUTH!!!!!

Like I told Elena, No One can take you into Heaven, that is up to each individual.  You have to have faith, even if it’s just a tiny bit!  And to safe-guard your heart and mind, you NEED to stay in the Word, i.e. the Bible, so that when these false teachers and prophets, with their false words come along, you will not be swayed, you will boldly stand-up and call the enemy out, and kick his butt to the curb where it belongs.

Romania removes theory of evolution from schools: moves closer to stone age / Scrape TV – The World on your side

Romania removes theory of evolution from schools: moves closer to stone age / Scrape TV – The World on your side

I’m very happy that this happened. Evolution is not scientifically proven. And idiots who believe Darwin was correct would look at the subtitle on the title page of “The Origin of the Species” they would read “Preservation of the White & Yellow Races”. Evolution was nothing more than racial ploy; a way to undermine non-white or yellow skin tones.

There are many things wrong with Romania, one of them being not teaching their kids about their constitution or laws. I don’t believe that any book should be banned and therefore don’t agree with the university banning books. Knowledge is the beginning of wisdom. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I’m not afraid of my kids rejecting creation and embracing evolution. I will explain to them the THEORY, as that is all it is, is a theory; of evolution as they get into these subjects in school. I teach them extra stuff at home anyway. Even if we were still in the U.S. I would be supplementing their reading curriculum at home so that they would have a broader education and scope, so that they could question their teachers to see what holds water and what doesn’t.

While I love the fact that I can spew out whatever is rattling around in my head for me to read later, or for anyone who wants to to read, I have to wonder, are all of “bloggers” just psuedo-journalists?  Are we all trying to fulfill some “His Girl Friday” fantasy that we had at some point in the distant past?

For myself, yes that is a bit true.  Writing has always been a passion of mine, even if I am only a mediocre talent.  I wanted to be a journalist, in the manner of Rosalind Russel from aforementioned film.  I wanted to chase down the stories – the truth, and then put out three in black and white for all eternity, for everyone to see.  However I got stupid and didn’t go to college, so now those dreams are gone, vapors!!  So here I am “scribbling” dribble in a vain attempt to soothe my regret!

If I humor, inspire, or give some other warm, fuzzy, beautiful feeling – I’m happy!  Hopefully I won’t anger anyone, but if I do, please know it’s not intentional.
